It will be difficult to find a necktie, wristwatch or button-down shirt for Dad in the Sky Valley, but finding head-turning vistas, outdoor sport venues and peaceful hikes are plentiful.
Find lots of choices at Stevens Pass where the Stevens Pass summer programs include Gravity Clinics to Disc Golf . He will be impressed with your choice and after being at the top of the mountain… on the way back home, turn off Highway 2 at Index-Galena road and drive the one mile into the Town of Index…a very photogenic stop and a great place to relax a little.
If the railroad and trains are on Dads inspiration list then you need to take him to Skykomish. In the Town of Skykomish the Great Northern & Cascade Railway has a one-eighth scale railroad with rides and a historic rail station offers a museum where there is lots of conversation about the developing venue. After all that railway inspiration take Dad over to Railroad Avenue and surprise him with a treat from the ‘Toot Sweet’ candy store. The town also offers a museum, bar and sit-down restaurant… with accommodations if you plan to stay the night. The Iron Goat Trail Interpretative Center is a few miles past Skykomish and taking the Old Cascade Highway route to the center is sure to inspire.
Reiter Foothills Recreation Area offers inspiration for Motorcyclists, ATV enthusiasts, 4×4’s, BMX and Mountain bikers…if your Dad is any of those this is the place to be. On the way to the foothills you may be interested to know that the City of Sultan is a “Wheeled All Terrain Vehicle” friendly city – impress Dad with that!
Enjoy the outdoor inspiration and take the opportunity to support local businesses, the arts and heritage venues during your visit.
