August Meeting Notes

Startup Gym -Mary Ritzman and Debbie Copple attended a Sultan School Board meeting and presented a request to ‘look into’ rescuing and repurposing the Startup Gym for the purposes of a Sky Valley Arts Events Center.  The opportunity is briefly defined in this one page summary SVAC event center opportunity. Debbie Copple is leading this initiative to investigate the feasibility of transitioning the gym into an event center and will update and seek volunteers as we progress.

501(c)3 status – We have filed the paperwork and submitted the filing fee. Now we are waiting to hear back from the federal government.  Prior to submitting the 501(c)3 we applied for and received WA Non-Profit Corporation status as ‘Sky Valley Arts Council’

Membership – At the August 25th meeting we discussed membership options for the Sky Valley Arts Council.  We started with a review of similar councils located in the Cascade Loop.  Those attending the meeting agreed that a 3 tiered paid membership model would be a good place to start.  We also discussed the value of volunteer time, membership recognition certificates and digital newsletter and social media communications. The board members are drafting the membership model for final review.

In summary – Sky Valley Arts Council is focused on setting up a membership model for participation and recognition, achieving our 501(c)3 status, exploring the Startup gym opportunity and defining our marketing focus for 2015 rollout.
